What should I consider when choosing carpets for my hotel?

The first thing hotel guests complain about is the noise coming from behind the wall of neighbouring rooms or from corridors.

What can be done to get rid of this problem?

Today, carpet manufacturers offer products that reduce the spread of noise. Hotel carpets offer a very high level of acoustic insulation, effectively taking care of the comfort and peace of guests and reducing the 'corridor effect'.

When choosing a carpet for hotel rooms, in addition to the visual effect, it is worth paying attention to the sound attenuation parameter.

Our recommendation:

  •     2-star hotel - sound attenuation of min. 24 dB
  •     3-star hotel - sound insulation of min. 27 dB
  •     4-star hotel - sound insulation of min. 28 dB
  •     5-star hotel - sound insulation at min. 30 dB

It is worth remembering that a floor covering, apart from having excellent acoustic properties, should also have durability and very good quality. What should I consider when choosing a floor covering? Above all, it is worth paying attention to issues such as pile grammage and class of use, which also affect the feeling of comfort of the users and ultimately their opinion of the hotel in question. Below are our recommendations:

  •     2-star hotel - grammage min. 900g/m2, saxony velour, use class min. 32
  •     3-star hotel - basis weight min. 1000g/m2, saxony velour, use class min. 32
  •     4-star hotel - weight min. 1200g/m2, saxony velour, use class min. 32
  •     5-star hotel - weight min. 1400g/m2, saxony velour, use class min. 32

But is the carpet in the room also suitable for use in the hallway? Absolutely not!
The carpet in the hallway is walked on daily by guests, staff and other visitors to the hotel. Therefore, a carpet in this area should be hardwearing and easy to clean. It should also be elegant and meet all applicable safety standards. Velour carpets with linear or geometric patterns are most commonly used here. This solution is ideal for long and narrow corridors. Regardless of which patterns and colours are chosen, some things remain the same. Namely, carpets in corridors and passageways should be resistant to intensive use (right after the reception area, this is the most exploited place), have good sound absorption, but should not be too resilient, as is the case with rooms, as this would hinder the movement of, for example, suitcases on wheels.

Wherever hotel guests move, a polyamide dyed carpet will prove to be the best solution. The carpet, which consists of dyed fibres, is characterised by high colour resistance to factors such as intensive use, cleaning or UV rays.  In addition, mass dyed polyamide is much more resistant to cleaning detergents than other types of carpets.

But which parameters should you pay attention to? Here are our recommendations:

Hotel 2-3 stars - weight min. Hotel 2-3 stars - weight min. 1000g/m2, use class 33, soundproofing level 27dB.
4-5 star hotel - basis weight min. 1200g/m2, performance class 33, sound insulation of 28dB
