The role of helpers on the job - more and less experienced
I used to have a boss who liked to say - 'give me people and I'll do anything'. That's the way it is, to get something done we have to work as a team. The role of each team member is invaluable. As the day-to-day leader of the work, I have certain expectations of the helpers. I will try to outline them now.
Of course I like to work with people I know, I know what they are capable of and I know what their skills are, but I often get new people with no experience to help and train. I expect them to be committed and to have some creativity in their actions. I know very well that it takes time and some manual predisposition to learn the next steps in carpet installation. Unfortunately, a lot of people, due to a lack of willingness and talent, can stop at the "pick up and sweep up" level. Although, in all seriousness, I have to say that I start the training of a completely "green" helper by teaching them how to vacuum, which often leaves them astonished. It is important to carry out the given tasks accurately, as framing is expensive, especially in terms of time and can sometimes hit you financially in the pocket. That's why, if I don't understand a command, I count on the helper to fearlessly ask how to do it and maybe even ask to demonstrate how I do it 'so it's right'. Therefore, in addition to having the right physical preparation, you often have to 'do a bit of lifting', you have to be an open-minded person, curious about what goes on when installing carpets or preparing the floor. Personally, I consider myself to be a person, all the time gaining experience and therefore learning, so I will share my experience and a bit of knowledge with you Dear Helpers, if you wish. See you at the carpet installation! It is a really interesting job, although demanding, but if we play to one goal, it has to work out.
