Should the glue for the floor and for the plinths be the same?
Not everyone asks themselves this question at the beginning of a flexible floor covering installation, but why is it important to use a different adhesive?

When installing PVC floor coverings, apart from the standard element of very thorough and professional preparation of the subfloor, there is another element which cannot be overlooked.
I often see, in clinics or schools in which I visit, where PVC coverings are installed and "plinths turned up on the wall", that the covering which is on the wall is not sticking well. It looks very poor and at the same time causes a lot of trouble for the user. Apart from other aspects of the work (e.g. priming the walls, using splay mouldings), the reason for this is often the glue used by the installers, or more precisely its quality. Glue that works well for carpets that are laid horizontally is not necessarily suitable for skirting boards. For plinths, we need an adhesive that has a strong initial bond and is at the same time flexible and very strong. Plinths are often exposed to intensive cleaning, scuffing or in schools children lean against them with their shoes.
It is therefore important to pay attention to the adhesive. Its type and parameters. There are two schools of thought.
- Either we use a proper glue for the whole surface of carpets (a more expensive solution because such a glue is more expensive to buy).
- Or we can only glue skirting boards with a different glue, different from the glue used for flat surfaces, which will be stronger and more suitable - this will ensure trouble-free use of the carpet and at the same time will not cause big additional costs.
