However, in our experience, incorrectly installed carpet and poor seaming will lead to fraying of the edges over time. I have seen cases where the seams were frayed by about 10 cm in each direction. And all this within one year of use. We cannot underestimate this issue, as it is one of the most common causes of carpet failure.

A properly done seam is to put about 5 cm of each piece of carpet on top of each other at the seam and cut at the ruler by two with a very sharp special knife. It is important that the cut is done right the first time.
The cost of professional carpet installation, using specialist tools, is often 20-40% of the value of the material (carpet). If it is done correctly, such material, even of low quality, will last much longer than a very good quality material installed by an inexperienced person.
