The appearance and functionality of modern carpets is most influenced by the carpet pile, specifically synthetic fibres. The father, the inventor of these fibres was Wallance Carothers of the American company DuPont, who discovered the chemical composition of polyamide.
This was in 1935 and since then the material has almost revolutionised many industries. Polyamide has high tensile strength and colouring capabilities, which is why it was immediately used in the manufacture of products such as toothbrushes, stockings and textile articles, i.e. also carpets. Sometimes the name nylon is used in the carpet industry. This is nothing other than polyamide, except that nylon is simply the trade name for this material, which is produced by Invista.
