How do I clean SmartStrand carpets?
SmartStrand family carpets are currently the most durable and easy to clean carpets available on the market. The secret to this product's stain resistance lies in the innovative patented fibre, which plays a key role in their construction rather than a coating as is often found in other carpets of this type. As a result, the protection against spillages and dirt built into SmartStrand carpets does not wear off or wash away over the lifetime of such a product. This is confirmed by the fact that the manufacturer of these carpets, the Belgian company Lano, is the only one to offer a guarantee for soiling left by pets, especially dogs and cats, for up to 25 years!
The carpets in question are made from the innovative Triexta fibre, which has been designed for maximum resistance to material fatigue and tarnishing. The feature lies deep within the product - at a molecular level - making it resilient and retaining its appearance for years to come. In comparison, standard nylon carpets with a comparable level of softness usually maintain their appearance to a level of 20,000 steps. SmartStrand carpets, on the other hand, retain their original format, pattern and colour even after 60,000 steps.
The carpet also has one of the most important features for everyday use, which is that it does not absorb odours. This is particularly important if you have pets and the carpets themselves are exposed to their natural substances. Once the Triexta fibres have been dyed during the manufacturing process, they will not accept any other liquids or soiling that could permanently stain the carpet. Thanks to zero fibre absorption, the manufacturer can guarantee that the carpet will not emit unwanted odours caused by pets.
Standard nylon carpets absorb moisture (up to 5% absorption). It is assumed that up to 1,400 grams of moisture can be retained in a few dozen square metres of nylon carpet, which will accumulate more and more unpleasant odours over the years.
Cleaning dirt from SmartStrand carpet in a few steps:
- Dry spills with a dry, white, absorbent cloth (preferably microfibre) or a white unprinted paper towel. To prevent the spill from spreading, proceed from the edge to the centre of the stain. Continue until any stain no longer appears on the cloth or paper towel. For food and other non-liquid substances dropped on the carpet, carefully pick them up first with a spoon. Then vacuum until completely removed.
- Use a new, clean, white cloth dampened with very lukewarm water and always proceed from the edge to the centre of the stain. Important: do not allow the carpet to get too wet and never walk on the cleaned surface until it is completely dry.
- Depending on the nature and intensity of the stain substance, in some cases it may be necessary to use a mild detergent to get rid of the stain. Sprinkle it on a damp cloth and remove the stain, proceeding from the edge of the stain towards the centre. Such a cleaner is readily available in our shop.
- Repeat steps 2-4 until the stain is removed.
SmartStrand is considered a stain-resistant carpet. This is due to the Nanoloc technology used in its manufacture, which makes the fibre impossible for dirt, liquid or even bacteria to settle in the core of the fibre to become a stain over time. Other carpets that are considered to be stain resistant use a surface treatment on the fibre itself. Unfortunately, with the passage of time and subsequent cleaning processes, these coatings are washed away or wiped away even earlier through normal use. In tests carried out, nylon carpets lost up to 90% of their protection after three professional cleanings.
Independent research has shown that during standard vacuuming, SmartStrand carpets release 3 times more dirt than other standard carpets. This is due to the fact that dirt on SmartStrand carpets does not stick. This characteristic combined with 0% absorption makes SmartStrand carpets the ideal textile flooring for allergy sufferers.
In addition to the most essential feature, which is the stain resistance of this carpet, an equally important and desirable feature is the soft and luxurious softness. This required the development and creation of a new yarn that has three times more silk-like fibres than the yarn used in ordinary soft nylon carpets. In a single strand of SmartStrand fibre, the manufacturer has packed more than 700 silk-like fibres! The Triexta fibre, which is the key to the success of these carpets, is made in a factory that places great emphasis on producing high-performance fibres derived from rapidly renewable materials (in this case corn!) rather than petroleum-based materials.
