From design to execution - does it have to be a 'road of thorns'?

What can be done to ensure that when the work is accepted, the client and the contractor are simply happy? A few of my thoughts (or perhaps a cry in the wilderness?).

I think every contractor, having had a project in hand, has more than once grabbed their head. We often ask ourselves, what did the author have in mind? I understand that the designer must first and foremost satisfy the client, his or her expectations and taste, as this is surely the main goal of the project, but I am also sure that architects are better at 'seeing the end result'. In that case, what is the issue? What is the problem?

In nearly 20 years of working, on various projects, I may have spoken to architects a few times about the design, but I have not noticed much interest in our opinions about the feasibility of fitting what appears on paper. Between us we often have sales reps who know the technical parameters of the material, but it is the installers who can say 'can it or can't it', carry out the job as originally designed. The current range of carpets on the market is very extensive in terms of purpose and colours, but it is important to remember that carpets are not universal. Particular thought should be given to the choice of carpet for, shall we say, "unusual" and ambitious projects. Not every carpet, even in matching colours, will lend itself to an aesthetically pleasing treatment.
